Agua Prieta Family Shelters, Inc. (APFS, Inc.), a non-profit corporation, consists entirely of volunteers that build shelters for poor families living in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico. There are no paid Officers or Employees, therefore, wholly 100% of all donated funds are used toward the purchase of shelter building materials and for related costs.

The ministry work is conducted in the Territoria Movimiento and the Colonia Ladrilleria Neighborhoods barrio ladrillero area, one of the poorest areas in Agua Prieta. In many cases, electricity or water is not readily available. While sewer service has been installed in the Colonia Ladrilleria Neighborhood, there are no notable sanitation facilities in either Neighborhood in the barrio and, as a result, families live in extremely substandard conditions driven by an ever-deteriorating environment.  

Our Mission:
Elevate and strengthen family unity and bond. In the current environment, life for family members reflects a sense of simply trying to survive day to day. Providing all-weather shelter improves neighborhoods, raises the standard of living, lends hope against despair, and promotes family-worth.  

Our Goal:
Provide shelter units for as many needy families as possible that live in the Neighborhoods Barrio. Since 1997, the ministry has built and/or helped complete dozens of weatherproof shelters and consequently, have positively changed the image, family life, health and safety and household selfworth the Neighborhoods of barrio ladrillero.  

Our Objectives:
Build the best quality shelter for the least amount of money in the shortest time possible without compromising the integrity of the shelter. A large portion of the building materials are purchased in the Neighborhood/community barrio ladrillero, community thus strengthening the local economy. The remainder are brought across the border by APFS, Inc. members and either paid for by the members or donated by local Tucson interests.
