Project Ladrillo
Project Ladrillo (La-dree-yo – meaning fired brick) is an ongoing shelter building project conducted in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico and is headed up by the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Douglas, Arizona. Dan Schoenfelder, a rancher in Elfrida, Arizona manages Project Ladrillo. Dan coordinates the purchase and delivery of construction materials for building teams and generates and maintains a list of families in need of a shelter. Agua Prieta Family Shelters, Inc. works in harmony with Project Ladrillo and uses Dan’s services during our own building season. Some of our building team leaders also assist newer or first time Project Ladrillo building teams throughout the year.
Project Ladrillo attracts building teams from many Arizona cities as well as northern and Midwestern states. Building teams of 20 or more caravan to Douglas from as far away as Michigan and some fly to Tucson and rent vehicles and drive to Douglas.
Project Ladrillo warehouses and provides the tools and equipment necessary for a visiting team to build a shelter. Over the years, enough tools have been acquired to adequately supply several teams working on different shelters at the same time. Should you gather a team and wish to build a shelter for a family or if you want more information or wish to help fund Project Ladrillo, please feel free to contact Dan at Rainbow’s End Ranch at (520) 271-4070.
